How to Get to Djanet by Plane

The easiest way to get to Djanet is by plane. Most international travellers reach Djanet by first flying to Algiers, the capital of Algeria, and then taking a domestic flight to Djanet.

Direct flights connect Algiers with Djanet Tiska Airport (DJG), making air travel the most convenient way to reach the Algerian Sahara and the gateway to Tassili n’Ajjer.

At certain times, direct flights from Paris to Djanet are also available. However, these flights are currently suspended. We will update our website as soon as direct flights from Paris to Djanet resume.

When you arrive in Djanet, our local Tuareg team can welcome you at the airport and arrange your transfer to your accommodation or directly to the starting point of your desert expedition.

Djanet Tiska Airport

Djanet Tiska Airport, also known as Sheikh Amoud Ben El Mokhtar Airport, is the main airport serving Djanet and the surrounding Sahara region.

The airport is located close to Djanet, making it convenient for travellers arriving for a desert tour, trekking expedition or cultural visit.

After landing, travellers can easily continue their journey into the city or towards the desert with a local transfer.

Flights from Algiers to Djanet

For travellers arriving in Algeria from Europe or other international destinations, Algiers is an important connection point for reaching Djanet.

After arriving at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers, travellers can take a domestic flight to Djanet.

Flight schedules can change depending on the season and airline operations, so it is important to check the current timetable before booking your international flight.

We recommend allowing enough time between your international arrival in Algiers and your domestic flight to Djanet, especially if you are travelling on separate tickets.

Can You Travel to Djanet by Road?

It is possible to reach Djanet by road, but for most international visitors, flying is the easiest and most practical option.

Djanet is located deep in southeastern Algeria, far from the country's northern cities. Travelling by road involves long distances and requires careful planning, especially when entering remote desert areas.

For visitors coming to Djanet to explore the Sahara, a flight is usually much more convenient than a long overland journey.

Once you arrive in Djanet, travelling by 4x4 is an excellent way to explore the surrounding desert. Local guides know the desert tracks and can take you to remote places that are difficult to reach independently.
