Tadrart Rouge, also known as the Algerian Tadrart, is a vast desert region located in southeastern Algeria, near Djanet. As a natural extension of the Tassili n’Ajjer massif, it is renowned for its striking contrasts between:

Tadrart Rouge is located in southeastern Algeria, near Djanet, within the Tassili n’Ajjer Cultural Park. This spectacular region is known for its immense red dunes, wind-sculpted rock formations and rock art sites. From Djanet, our Tuareg team accompanies you by 4x4 through the emblematic landscapes of Tadrart Rouge, including Moul N’Aga, Tin Merzouga, El Berdj and the great desert canyons.

Where is Tadrart Rouge?

Day 2: Tassili Cliffs & Oued El Beridj

  • Drive southeast along the Tassili cliffs, crossing Tassili d’Imaharatène and the first stretches of golden sand.

  • Enter Oued El Beridj, surrounded by dunes and sculpted rock formations.

Tadrart Rouge Circuit Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Djanet & First Desert Camp

  • Arrival according to the flight schedule.

  • Necessary formalities before entering the Tassili n’Ajjer area.

  • Transfer to The Pleiades guesthouse to rest, followed by departure towards Amais, the first desert camp of the Tadrart Rouge circuit.

Day 3: El Beridj Canyon, Moul N’Aga & Tin Merzouga

  • Discover ancient rock paintings and engravings.

  • Continue through the orange dunes of Moul N’Aga and the arches of Tamezguida.

  • Arrive at Tin Merzouga, a natural amphitheater where the dunes take on an intense red color at sunset.

Day 4: Ouanaguen Circus & Multicolored Sands

  • Discover the sandstone formations of Ouanaguen Circus, with the option to walk according to your preferences.

  • Cross valleys, dunes and rocky landscapes before reaching the camp at Tin Tehak.

Day 5: Oued In Djaren & Rock Engravings

  • Discover one of the most remarkable rock art sites in Tadrart Rouge, with the option to walk according to your preferences.

  • In the afternoon, continue by 4x4 towards Monkhor, a region surrounded by majestic dunes.

Day 6: Monkhor & Alidemma

  • Explore the dunes and sculpted cliffs of the region.

  • Optional walks and time for photography, according to your preferences.

  • Overnight at a desert camp under the Saharan stars.

Day 7: Crossing the Ténéré & Return to Djanet

  • Drive across the northern Ténéré, a vast sea of sand.

  • Visit the rock engravings of Tegharghart, including the famous Crying Cow.

  • Return to Djanet: shower, visit the city, dinner and transfer to the airport.
